Table, c. 1810-1815

Subject

End of Dining Table

Description

This table, the end of a dining table, is circa 1810-1815. It has a drop-leaf and was part of a three-part dining table. This example is southern and probably Tennessee, as it is cherry with yellow pine frame and blocks. The corner type is "round corner" as found in the London Cabinet Makers Union Book of Prices (1811, 1824, 1836). Note the leg with its double-ring turning and abrupt reed ending at the foot. These are features that should be looked for on other examples. They could possibly be characteristics of a shingle shop. Top separated by crack running all the way through table. One veneered end is crazed.
