Table, c. 1820-1830

Work Table

Date

1820-1830

Description

This circa 1820-1830 work table, as tables of this type were known, is called by a general term which might be subdivided into sewing, writing and other functions. This specific example is probably a Tennessee example in the taste of New York, Philadelphia or Nashville. This is not to make light of this table as it is a fine example of imitation of a classic form. This is mahogany and cherry veneered on a drawer front which is all poplar. Cut nails are in this example. Two drawer table set on 4 nicely turned post supports which are set in a solid square base, each corner having a Phyfe style splayed leg with pad feet, very crudely done.
