Whig Rose

Date

1800-1850

Description

Overshot weave structure. This is one of the most famous overshot patterns named for the Whig Party of the early 19th century. This motif is composed of one central larger rose surrounded by smaller roses in each of the four corners.
Each rose garden is enclosed by a circle which overlaps the surrounding circles. This is a very colorful rendition of that pattern with indigo blue, onion skin or coreopsis yellow, and turkey red dyes
