Tea Table, 18th century

Dublin Core

Title

Tea Table, 18th century

Description

This walnut tea table is English and has an oak block under the tilt top. Queen Anne style with pad feet. In 1773 the Charleston SC cabinet maker Thomas Elfe's shop charged L 2.5 for a "new pillar (shaft) to a tea table". Although this tea table or "snap table" is with pad feet and therefore of the Queen Anne style, it, as a form, was made well into the eighteenth century, especially with walnut as a primary wood. this generally indicates a country production. Original brass catch for tilt top. Tripod base with very plain turned stem. This table has a bad split on top
