Candle stand, c. 1770-1790
Dublin Core
Title
Candle stand, c. 1770-1790
Date
c. 1770-1790
Description
This walnut candlestand, dish topped, circa 1770-1790, is American and could equally be called a "snap table", as this term has been seen in inventories in the South. This table has no birdcage and has had 2 different latches on the top. The swirled urn on the shaft is not unusual and is unfortunately seen throughout the eastern seaboard. However, this table has a finished quality to it which elevates it above the normal table. If this table were of mahogany, it would have come from one of the major cities, probably in New England.
