Table, c. 1820
Subject
Banquet End
Description
This table is circa 1820 and could be an end to a dining table. They have been called compass tables and "a side board rounding to fit the other (square table)". This could have been made as a "pier table" or "one to fit between two windows". At this date (1820), the piece could have been used for several purposes. It is a country attempt at a normal end of a "set" of dining tables. This example is walnut throughout, pegged and no lugs or hooks or eyes for joining to another table. Possibly east Tennessee. Unusual shaped tapered legs.
8/2023: "CRB-9" on bottom; wooden three-legged half table; front leg has 4 sides that taper at the bottom, the rear legs are smaller and triangular and taper at the bottom.
