Title

Tea Tray, c. 1850-1870

Description

This tea tray is mahogany and circa 1850-1870. With its three feet, screws, and shell-like handles it can be given a date of manufacture of the second half of the nineteenth century. Handles are carved with large flutes. The rim is scalloped and there are 18 strange 1/4" round inlays which are very irregular in placement. There is a large crack running through the center of the tray.

8/2023: "CRB-11" in white on bottom edge of support; wooden tea tray with dark stain, oval shaped wooden tea tray with handles and 3 supports on the bottom; handles secured on rim with 3 screws; rim is scalloped ' handles have 6 ridges in a claw like shape.

8/2023: Condition: Fair- Back of tray: shallow scratches across entire back surface; some residue around edges; large rack on back along the entire length of the tray(1/8" wide); fabric on bottom of supports is frayed and broken/small pieces are missing; two 3/8" x 1/2" shallow chips on center that goes through the finish on edge of bottom; bottom of one handle has broken wood on sides approx. 3/4" x 5/8"; Top of Tray: heavily scratched surface; ends have large dark brown/black streaks from 1/4" to 3/4" in length; top edge of rim is worn; one 3/4" large gouge in wood, 3/8" gouge on top and a 5/8" gouge in wood; large crack on bottom is also visible on top; watermarks on top of tray.
